Autograph Group Clusters

Navigation in Flickr through group clusters.

What is it?

We used Walktrap cluster detection tool
on a network of Flickr groups (see Flickr) where groups are linked to each other if they have at least one member in common (the groups and members are as they were at the time of the crawl, which is August 2006).
Links are weighted by the usual ratio (size of intersection) / (size of union).

This produces a hierarchical clustering, where each cluster is the union of two smaller clusters:
Each Flickr group is a cluster. The whole set of Flickr groups is the biggest cluster, that can be splitted in two smaller clusters, which themselves can be splitted etc.

The decomposition you get on the first page is the one having the best Newman's modularity (see the technical paper cited in the description of Walktrap).

How to use it?

Click on one cluster c.

You get to a page having the following structure :

  • a link to the immediately upper cluster
  • a tagcloud of the current cluster c
  • links to the two clusters which c can be splitted into
  • tagclouds of these two clusters
  • for each of these, the list of their groups, with a link to the group as a cluster (the link denoted by [C]), a link to the group page on Flickr (click on the group name), the number of photos and the first 5 tags of the group.

What do you think of it?
